Crochet Pattern Details & Key Features

The pattern features easy-to-make square motifs that you join together. The design is versatile and perfect for using up your leftover yarn stash. In other words, it allows you to combine any yarn and color to create a truly one-of-a-kind blanket. Furthermore, the original blanket utilizes a combination of different fibers, including wool, semi-wool and cotton yarn. Consequently, this makes it a great project for intermediate crocheters or enthusiastic beginners.

Yarn & Materials

This crochet pattern allows you to use up leftover yarn. The crochet throw can be made from any yarn that holds its shape well and is not too elastic.

Various types of yarn were used to make the blanket shown in the photo, with a total consumption of 1094 g:

For sewing squares – milk-colored yarn – 40% wool, 20% bamboo, 40% acrylic.

For crocheting squares:

  • pink-colored yarn – Alize Baby Wool (40% Wool, 40% Acrylic, 20% Bamboo; 50g/175m);
  • white color – natural sheep’s wool yarn – 100% wool – combined with thin bobbin semi-wool – 80% wool, 20% acrylic – in 4-6 yarns – purple, blue, beige and milk color;
  • blue colored yarn – Alize Lanagold (49% wool, 51% acrylic);
  • light blue yarn – Gazzal Baby Cotton (60% Cotton, 40% Polyacrylic; 50g/165m).

You can choose a similar yarn type to achieve the same look and feel, such as a Bulky or Super Bulky weight yarn. However, ensure that the thickness is approximately the same, because this will determine the size of your square motifs.

Tools for this Crochet Blanket

To complete this project, you will need the following tools:

  • For crocheting the motifs: a crochet hook 5 mm (H-8).
  • For stitching and border: a crochet hook 4.5 mm or 5 mm (G-6 or H-8).
  • For finishing: a steam iron and ironing board for blocking, as well as scissors, a fabric marker, tailor pins, and masking tape (if necessary).

Sizing & Gauge

  • Finished Measurements: 102 cm x 148 cm.
  • Square motif: 24 cm x 24 cm.
  • Gauge: 12.5 stitches and 7.08 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in) in twisted garter stitch.
