Description

The Tailor’s Pressing Tools Sewing Pattern collection offers a complete guide to crafting professional-grade ironing equipment. Such tools are essential for achieving crisp, perfectly shaped seams and a high-end finish on any garment.

Our Double-Layer Technology ensures every piece remains durable, heat-resistant, and firm enough for heavy-duty tailoring. Even as a beginner, you can easily create these professional tools to upgrade your sewing room with essential, handcrafted equipment.

Pressing Tools Collection Details & Key Features

These patterns focus on making tools that actually last. Here is what makes the Tailor’s Pressing Tools Sewing Pattern special:

  • Double-Layer Design: You will sew each tool with both an outer fabric and a strong lining. This makes them extra tough and keeps them firm.
  • Sawdust Filling: The instructions show you how to pack the tools with hardwood sawdust to get that perfectly hard surface for pressing.
  • Practical Shapes: You get five different shapes designed to help with everything from long sleeve seams to curved bust darts.

This set includes patterns for five essential pressing tools:

  • Seam Roll — for pressing seams in sleeves and narrow areas.
  • Pear-shaped Ham — for pressing armholes, necklines, and collars.
  • Kidney Ham — for shaping darts, waistlines, and hip curves.
  • Round Ham — for pressing large curved areas and bust seams.
  • Pressing Pad — for protecting hands during steaming and pressing small details.
  • Easy to Sew: The construction is very simple, so even a beginner can get a clean, symmetrical shape without any trouble.

Materials for Your Pressing Tools Collection

To create the full set of five professional tools, you will need the following materials:

  • Outer Fabric: 90 cm (35″) of high-quality cotton satin or heavy linen (min. width 140 cm / 55″). Make sure the fabric is natural, heat-resistant, and colorfast.
  • Two-Sided Option: If you want decorative two-sided tools, you can use 45–50 cm (0.5 yard) of two different fabrics instead.
  • Lining Fabric: 90 cm (35″) of light to medium-weight natural cotton, such as calico or white cotton (min. width 140 cm / 55″).
  • Thread: Use a strong sewing thread that matches your fabric color.
  • Filling: Fine sawdust from deciduous (hardwood) trees.
  • Pro Tip: Clean sawdust sold in pet stores for small rodents is an excellent, easy-to-find option.

Quantity Note: The 90 cm of fabric specified above is plenty to create all five tools in this collection when you follow the grainline layout.

Tools & Supplies:

  • Sewing machine for assembling the main shell.
  • Hand sewing needle for closing the opening.
  • Steam iron or steam generator to shape the tool.
  • Fabric marker or tailor’s chalk to transfer pattern markings.
  • Tailor’s pins to hold the fabric layers together.
  • Fabric scissors for precise cutting.
  • Funnel for stuffing: You can use a regular funnel or a DIY version made from a plastic bottle (cut off just above the neck) to easily pour the sawdust inside.

Sizing:

  • Seam Roll: 31 x 7 cm (Diameter), Thickness 7 cm.
  • Pressing Pad: 18 x 10 cm, Thickness 5 cm.
  • Pear-shaped Ham: 34 x 17.5 cm (Wide) / 4 cm (Narrow), Thickness 8 cm.
  • Kidney Ham: 28 x 14 cm (Wide) / 9 cm (Narrow), Thickness 6.5 cm.
  • Round Ham: 27 cm (Diameter), Thickness 8 cm.
